Briton arrested for attempted murder after ‘hit-and-run’ in Magaluf

A British tourist has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly running over two compatriots in his car minutes after a heated argument in Magaluf, on the Spanish island of Majorca. The victims, two young women, are currently in hospital in Palma, with one left unconscious on the pavement after the shocking accident.

The incident is understood to have just before before 4.15am on Cala Blanca street, with sources suggesting the girlfriend of the man who has since been arrestd got into a fight with another young woman.

The brawl was broken up, but the boyfriend of one of them left in a hurry, threatening those present.

Shortly afterwards, CCTV video footage shows a car mounting the pavement before running over two people standing by the door of an adjoining fast food restaurant.

Both were left lying on the ground and the driver fled the scene.

Police were called, as were paramedics, and the two women were taken by ambulance to hospital.

Neither is believed to have suffered serious injuries.

A 29-year-old man was subsequently arrested on the nearby beach of Son Matías.
