A British nursery worker has been left paralysed and was unable to breathe without a ventilator for weeks after she was stricken by a mysterious illness while living in Ibiza.
Hayley Bray, 26, from Deal, Kent, was unable to eat, talk or even breathe unassisted after she came down with what was initially diagnosed as a urine infection in June.
She had been living and working at a five-star hotel on the island for a few months when she began feeling unwell and within two days she lost all sensation in her limbs.
Ms Bray was airlifted to a larger hospital in Majorca and was flown by air ambulance to England on July 21, where doctors are still baffled by her paralysis.

Her half-sister Sadie, 24, described how Ms Bray fell ill so rapidly, she had to find the nursery manager online to discover where her relative was.
Ms Bray had told her sister ‘I didn’t sleep last night. I felt like my bones really hurt,’ the Sun reported.
Sadie told the paper: ‘I was really worried and messaged her saying she should go to the doctors but Hayley wanted to go to work.
‘Once she started her shift her boss could tell she wasn’t right and sent her to the hospital.
‘At that point they thought she might have a bad urine infection. But then we lost all contact with Hayley.’
Sadie tracked down Ms Bray’s boss on Instagram and learned that her half-sister had been rushed to intensive care; her lungs had failed and she was on a ventilator.
After two weeks in intensive care on the island, she was airlifted to Majorca, spending three weeks there where she received plasma exchange therapy, a blood cleansing process.
After 12 sessions she was able to move her right arm and gained sensation in her left arm for the first time.
She would have returned to England sooner, but could not arrive until the end of July after suffering a collapsed lung.

Her family wrote on her Go Fund Me page: ‘Since returning to England Hayley has made great improvements. She is now breathing on her own and is able to eat a puréed diet. Hayley doesn’t yet have the stomach muscles to cough so still has a mini tracheotomy fitted to suction fluid off her lungs.
‘Currently Hayley has no feeling or movement in her legs and requires one to one care throughout the day. The amazing physio team are helping to build her muscles back, working on her arms, hands and core. Hayley has lost all her independence and dignity which she struggles with but the amazing staff keep her going.’
Neurologists have given Ms Bray an estimated year in hospital before she can be released.
Her family said she has been warned of life-long issues, but for Ms Bray ‘that isn’t an option.’
‘She is very determined and positive, and we all have hope she will pull through this and make a full recovery,’ her family wrote. ‘The bravery and strength she has shown has inspired us all, we are so very proud of how she is coping.’
