British man, 20, who went missing from Dutch hospital found dead in ditch

A British man has been found missing dead in a ditch after a frantic two-day search. Thomas Delafay, 20, had been on holiday with his boyfriend visiting a friend when he went missing last Saturday. He was last seen outside the Dijklander Hospital in Hoorn, roughly 20 miles outside of Amsterdam.

Dutch police launched a search operation to track down the 20-year-old “fun and outgoing” young man, but tragically they found his body in a ditch close to where he was last seen.

Thomas went missing after suffering a reported psychotic break and experiencing hallucinations, according to his sister Holly Delafay.

While he was last seen outside the Dijklander Hospital, it is not believed that he ever entered the building.

Taking to Facebook, Holly shared her grief, saying her soul was “crushed” and her heart “broken”.

She wrote: “We will miss you so much, I don’t know what to do with my life now that you’re not in it. I feel so lost without my baby brother.

“You mean the absolute world to me and I’m so lost and broken without you. You’re my best friend. I love you so so much. Fly high and rest easy baby bro.”

She added: “We want to thank everyone who helped to find my brother and those who did their utmost and went above and beyond to offer their help and resources to find him. We love you all so so much.”

In a statement on Twitter, the investigating Dutch police said they did not believe Thomas had been the victim of a crime.

They said an investigation is underway and shared their condolences with the 20-year-old’s family.

The statement read: “”This morning we found a deceased person in a ditch on the Maelsonstraat in Hoorn. Investigation into the identity shows that it concerns the previously missing Thomas (Taiga).”

When he was still missing, Holly issued a plea via Plymouth Live to her younger brother, saying she and her family “miss you so so much” and that they were “all super worried”.

She described him at the time as a “fun and outgoing person who enjoys life and lives it to the full”.

She later said that she did not believe Thomas had been in possession of his passport, phone or wallet when he went missing.

Dutch police, as they were looking for him, described him as “wearing a black hoodie with letters all over, a black pants and black shoes”, adding that he had a “small posture”.
