Brit boxer’s body held together by metal rods after horror crash in Thailand
A British tourist has been left bed-bound after being injured in a horrific car accident in Thailand that resulted in metal rods being used to hold his body together.
Chris Richardson, from York, had to be airlifted to hospital while on holiday in Bangkok when a pickup truck hit his motorbike on April 13 while he was leaving a coffee shop, reports YorkshireLive.
His list of gruesome injuries included a number of broken bones, a broken cheekbone, leg, a fractured eye socket, and a severe foot infection.

Chris, a keen boxer, was left fighting for his life in the days following the accident — but his friend Alison says he is now hoping to build back enough strength to return to the ring one day despite his traumatic experience.
Describing his progress in the last few months to YorkshireLive, Alison said: "The leg frames have been removed and Chris is sitting up now and working with a physio to build up his strength. We did get him to stand briefly, which was so good to see and hopefully after his next surgery, we’ll be able to move him even more."
"I look forward to getting him into a wheelchair, so I can take him to the garden and get him some sun and fresh air after two weeks on his back in the hospital bed.
"The infection on his foot is still a concern, but the doctor will be trying a new technique over the next few days to help the tissue grow back quicker."
He added that Chris is now able to chuckle again at his "silly jokes and stories", although surgery on his hip means this is sometimes painful to do.
A decision by his insurance company not to cover his costs however has been no laughing matter, leaving his family with a huge medical bill.

The first two days of treatment alone cost £25,000, and his family and friends are now hoping to raise £60,000 via GoFundMe to settle the treatment.
They have so far raised just over half of that total, with Chris sending a special message of "thank you so much" to all those who have contributed.
Reflecting on his pal's brave fight for recovery since the accident, Alison added: "Before Chris went into surgery, we talked about his favourite movies, one of which is Gladiator.
"Like a true gladiator, Chris powered through his surgery. Chris will power through and come out with a win."
