BREAKING: Spider-Man screenwriter Alvin Sargent dies aged 92

Alvin died from natural causes at his home in Seattle, US, on Thursday. 

He penned the screenplays for Spider-Man 2 in 2004 and Spider-Man 3 in 2007 before rewriting The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012.

The renowned wordsmith won an Oscar for his 1977 Holocaust drama Julia and another for 1980 film Ordinary People, about a family facing bereavement.

Starting as a writer for television, Sargent made it to film in 1966 with Gambit, a comedy thriller starring Michael Caine.

Along with his two Oscar wins, he was also nominated in 1974 for his Paper Moon screenplay – an American comedy-drama film set during the Great Depression.

Sargent married producer Laura Ziskin in 2010 after more than 25 years together.

She died of breast cancer a year later.

Sargent is survived by his daughters, Jennifer and Amanda, along with Laura’s daughter Julia Barry.
