At least 10 firefighters and 15 fire engines are currently on the scene battling the huge inferno in De Pass Gardens, Barking.

Shocking pictures and videos posted on Twitter show the flats are fully ablaze.

It is not known if anyone is injured or has been caught up in the blaze at this stage.

The Met Police is also said to be providing assistance, including closing nearby roads.

According to the London Fire Brigade, the floors one through sixth are completely alight.

A statement posted online said: “Fire crews from Barking, Dagenham, East Ham and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

“The cause of the is not known at this stage.”

Comments posted online by local residents suggest the flats have only just been built, although this has not been confirmed.
