BREAKING: Brit couple hauled into court for ‘being drunk in charge of kids at airport’

Police detained the unnamed pair after the woman, 53, had fallen over in the departure lounge.

Gibraltar police confirmed this morning that the husband and wife, aged 54 and 53, appeared before a magistrate yesterday and were granted bail in the sum of £500.

Their case was adjourned until August 5th.

The woman who reportedly fell over was also charged with criminal damage.

Confirming their arrest and charges, Gibraltar police spokesman Paco Oliva said: “They appeared in court yesterday on that charge.

“The case was adjourned until August 5th and they were granted bail in the sum of £500.”

No further details have yet been released about the couple and whether they live in Gibraltar or were on holiday from the UK.

The couple were arrested on Sunday night in the departure lounge of Gibraltar airport.

The pair were taken to a local police station while their three kids were handed over to social services following the arrest, the statement added.

The Royal Gibraltar Police had earlier issued a statement saying: “A 54 year old man and a 53 year old woman, both British nationals, were arrested for being intoxicated whilst in charge of a child.”

“Police were called to the Gibraltar International Airport to assist a GHA ambulance crew who were having difficulties with a female passenger who had fallen over in the departures lounge. On arrival, the officers noted that the female and her husband, who were due to fly out later that night with their three young children, were both intoxicated.”

“Both individuals were arrested for being intoxicated whilst in charge and of a child and conveyed to New Mole House police station.

“Emergency Police powers were executed and the three children were taken into police care and subsequently accommodated with Social Services.”

“Both individuals have been charged with being Intoxicated while in charge of a child. The female has been additionally charged with criminal damage. “

It is understood the family were due to flight out of Gibraltar but neither their destination or airport have yet been revealed.

Further details have been requested from the police, including about the children, their ages and whether or not they are still in care or back with the family.
