Johny Doherty, 28, had vanished from a rented villa where he was staying during a house birthday party near the town of Santa Eulalia.

The Glaswegian had been drinking and friends assumed he had gone off to sleep when they couldn’t see him.

But they later discovered his bed was empty when pals in the villa started getting calls from the UK.

Now police have this morning discovered a body in an area near to the villa where Johny disappeared from early on Monday morning.

A local spotted the body floating in the sea off cliffs near Cap Martinet.

Investigators say there is nothing at this stage pointing to the death being suspicious, but it will be up to the forensic experts to determine.

Johny’s sister has been appealing for anyone with information about Johny’s disappearance to contact police.

She said yesterday: “He’d been drinking but he’s the sort of person who doesn’t lose it completely when he’s drunk alcohol and is normally compos mentis.

“He doesn’t appear to have warned anyone he was going to leave the villa for whatever reason so we’re very confused at the moment.”

Jordan also said that her brother’s disappearance was not voluntary.

She added: “We believe he may have changed into some jogging trousers and a T-shirt before he was last seen but it’s all a bit confusing at the moment.

“Spanish police at first said they thought he might be out partying somewhere and we’d have to wait when we first tried to report him missing but they started taking things seriously yesterday and today there’s a search being coordinated across four stations.

“The villa where he was staying is near to the Destino Pacha Ibiza Resort.”
