Boy, 14, has testicles ripped off after grinding machine caught baggy trousers
A teenager had his testicles ripped off after a grinding machine caught his baggy trousers.
Bashir Salisu was learning how to grind grain with a workman at the Muda Lawal market, Bauchi, Nigeria.
The 14-year-old schoolboy ended up getting his baggy trousers caught on the machine’s fast-moving belt.
It pulled the boy in and “instantly severed” his testicles and injured his penis.
Doctors were, however, able to save his manhood, but his balls were unable to be preserved.
He gave an interview to local press from his hospital bed at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital after the accident at 10am on Friday.

Bashir tearfully recounted the horrifying incident which occurred as he was learning how to use the tool.
He said: “When my trousers got entangled as a result of the fast rotating belt, it instantly severed my testicles and inflicted grave injuries on my private part.
“The pain was unbearable and I was rushed to the hospital, where medical personnel started treating me.
“Unfortunately, the testicles had gone and can no longer be replaced; the doctors confirmed that the situation is irredeemable.”

The teen went on: “I engage in the trade after school hours and during holidays to enable me become self-reliant during and after my studies as white collar jobs are not easy to come by.
“My parents are poor and I need to prepare myself, not only to be self-employed, but also help them and my younger brothers and sisters.”
His dad Malam Salisu Mohammed also revealed his horror while speaking to the Nigerian newspaper the New Telegraph.
The farmer said: “I felt highly disturbed initially but was able to collect myself later, believing that tragedies are ordained by God and must, therefore, be accepted when they happen.”

Dr. Liman Usman suggested the hospital was looking into getting the boy a plastic scrotum.
He confirmed his balls could not be saved, but that his penis had managed to survive the mangling.
The doctor said: “What can be done is to attach plastic scrotum so that when he feels it, he will have the impression that he had his testicles intact.
“This is good for his psychological development, but this cannot be done in Nigeria, except overseas.”
