Boy, 14, busted trying to escape detention center by scaling wall

CCTV camera catches moment 14-year-old boy tries to escape from a Peruvian detention center by scaling the wall while barefoot

  • Surveillance cameras at the Juvenile Center for Diagnosis and Rehabilitation recorded footage of a 14-year-old boy trying to escape Sunday morning
  • He scaled the wall barefooted, and at one point half of his body dangled over the brick structure
  • The boy was forced to climb back down after guards were alerted and cops surrounded the center’s perimeter to deter any copycats

A 14-year-old boy was caught on camera trying to slip out of a juvenile detention center in northwestern Peru by scaling the wall. 

The CCTV footage was captured at the Juvenile Center for Diagnosis and Rehabilitation in the city of Trujillo on Sunday morning.

And the images show just how close the barefooted teen came to pulling off the daring escape. 

At one point, he manages to get half of his body underneath the barbed wire at the top of the wall – which appeared to be around 20 feet high.

He was unsuccessful in the brazen attempt to break out of a youth detention facility

He is seen surveyed the area outside the center while bystanders went about their lives. 

But he was forced to abandon his bid for freedom when the correction facility’s guards became aware of his actions.

The boy was forced to scale back down the wall, and agents with the Peruvian National Police cordoned off the surrounding area to thwart any copycats. 

Officials at the juvenile facility have not released any comment on the failed escape attempt.
