BOOZY Brits haunted towns up and down the country last night as they got into the Halloween spirit.

Groups of revellers wandered the streets in Birmingham dressed as convicts, killer clowns, zombies and devils just days before fright night.

One group of pals looked menacing in masks as a 'blood-splattered' drinker pretended to terrorise pub goers with a huge 'zombie knife'.

Another ghoul dressed as a convict made a bid for freedom as glamorous bunnies and devils walked by.

Two pals could be seen clowning around in creepy wigs as zombies roamed the packed-out city centre through the night.

The Joker was also out and about as the booze kicked in for thousands up and down the country.

It comes just two nights ahead of Halloween on Sunday, October 31, with drinkers expected to celebrate the night all weekend.

Police are already begging shops not to sell flour and eggs to under-18s for fear youngsters will pelt homes and cars.

In an open letter, Wiltshire Police's assistant chief constable Deb Smith said: "As we approach Halloween, I am writing to raise awareness of the potential increase in under 18s purchasing items such as eggs and flour from your store for the purposes of causing anti-social behaviour."

She added: "We can’t stop shops from selling items, but we politely ask that you question yourself why a young person, or group of youngsters, want to buy boxes of eggs and bags of flour."

Officers have also warned of the signs of spiking following a number of attacks in recent weeks.

West Midlands Police said in a statement ahead of the weekend: "Spiking is against the law. It’s a serious crime with serious consequences.

"People are more aware of spiking than ever before so perpetrators are more likely to be found out."

The force has urged anyone who thinks they have been spiked to alert a friend, staff member or tell the police.

They should not hesitate to call for medical help and can use the code-word 'Angela' when speaking with bar staff if feeling unsafe or threatened.
