Bookies have slashed odds on Britain basking in a red hot Christmas
Bookies have slashed odds on Britain basking in a red hot Christmas.
They reckon this December will be the warmest since records began, slashing chances to 6-4 from 3-1.
It is a change from the usual debate over the chances of a white Christmas.
Coral’s John Hill said: "If the latest odds are anything to go by, we could be set for a sweltering Christmas this year.
"We have slashed the odds on this Christmas Day being the hottest we have ever had so many may be considering a BBQ for their Christmas dinner this year."
The bookie says Brits have been piling cash on a sweltering Crimbo.
Punters are believed to be rolling the dice based on records showing temperatures on December 25 have been increasing year on year.
The hottest Christmas to date in the UK was in 2019 when highs of 18.7C were recorded.
It follows the Met Office’s announcement that Britain has had the warmest summer on record.
Temperatures were 0.05C warmer globally than the same period last year.

Coral reckons October will follow that pattern, with odds of just 2-1 that the month will also smash records.
The UK has not seen a white Christmas for 11 years. The Met Office believes these days we are more likely to see snow between January and March.
It says: "White Christmases were more frequent in the 18th and 19th centuries, even more so before the change of calendar in 1752 which effectively brought Christmas Day back by 12 days.
"Climate change has also brought higher average temperatures over land and sea and this generally reduced the chances of a white Christmas."
The definition that the Met Office uses to define a white Christmas is for one snowflake to be observed falling in the 24 hours of 25 December somewhere in the UK.
