Bodybuilder bride-to-be mauled in savage dog attack weeks before wedding

A bodybuilder bride-to-be was walking her beloved pet dachshund in her local park when they were set upon by a larger breed in an “unprovoked attack”.

Isabella Payne has been preparing for her fairytale wedding only seven weeks away, but now is recovering from the injuries she sustained during the savage attack.

She and her pet pooch, three-year-old Lola were mauled by the aggressive bull terrier type dog on Wednesday (June 28).

Isabella, with fiance Jacob Thirkettle, had taken Lola to an off-leash park on the Gold Coast of Australia at the time.

Both Lola and Isabella were left with horrific injuries by the beast of a dog – including bruises, scratches, and puncture wounds from the animal's teeth.

However, the Dachshund injuries could have been life-threatening had her owner not stepped in.

Meanwhile, Lola was severely injured, with her injuries potentially life-threatening if Ms Payne didn’t step in.

Writing on their GoFundMe page to raise money for vet bills, Jacob wrote: “One of the worst possible things happened to Lola, our 3-year-old miniature dachshund and Isabelle, my fiancee.

“They were both attacked unprovoked and mauled by another dog while at an off-leash dog park on the Gold Coast and my fiance was very badly injured trying to extract Lola from its grip.

“Safe to say that without Isabelle‘s quick thinking, Lola wouldn’t be here with us today.”

Mr Thirkettle continued by thanking members of the community who assisted his partner and their dog by coming “to their rescue”.

According to News.AU.com, Lola was rushed to the vet and required surgery to repair the lacerations to her back and ribcage.

“Lola’s operation went well but she still has a long journey ahead with her recovery and it’s early days,” Jacob added.

The dachshund will require further vet visits and ongoing treatment but so far have managed to crowdfund more than $2,000 AUD (£1,050).

“We just want to thank everyone who’s supported the GoFundMe and for all the messages we’ve both received,” the pair posted in an update.

“We’re honestly just so grateful to everyone and are deeply overwhelmed by the love and incredible support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
