Bloke brutally stabbed own dad to death because he thought he was a robot

A schizophrenic 24-year-old stabbed his dad 10 times in the face after becoming convinced he was a robot.

Berris Thomas, 62, was killed at home in his Wolverhampton flat in July 2021 but only now has his son heard his sentence for the sickening brutality.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how paranoid Jermaine Thomas took a knife to his father's face and neck after being refused money for a taxi.

It wasn't until a few days later when Thomas admitted to the sickening murder to family members, that his dad's body was discovered during a welfare check by West Midlands Police on July 20.

Thomas was arrested and detained under the Mental Health Act the next day.

The 24-year-old later admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. He was handed an indefinite hospital order under the Mental Health Act at Wolverhampton Crown Court on May 10.

Detective Inspector Laura Harrison, from West Midlands Police, said: "This was a distressing and emotional case for everyone involved. Berris Thomas was killed in his own home, where everyone has a right to feel safe.

"We understand how difficult this case has been for the family and we hope they can find some peace following this outcome."

Thomas was also sentenced for wounding and a racially-aggravated public order offence – both against different victims.
