Billionaire Harry Macklowe’s new wife: ‘I kind of saved him’
Inside their $20 million Upper East Side apartment, billionaire developer Harry Macklowe, 81, and his new bride act like teenagers who can’t keep their hands off each other.
“We don’t go to sleep — we talk in bed all night,” said Harry of Patricia Landeau, 63, a French former fashion executive and mother of four.
The two wed March 7 after Harry’s bitter, and very public, divorce from Linda Macklowe, his wife of nearly 60 years.
“It’s like living all the greatest love songs — like living the most privileged existence,” Harry told The Post, at one point wiping away tears of joy.
The tears have been free-flowing lately. “He was so emotional at the wedding,” said Patricia.
Harry gave his ex half of his reported $2 billion so he could be with Patricia.
“What he did for me is amazing. He’s been working all his life to make all this money and for me he’s giving half of everything — the art collection, the money. He had nothing,” said Patricia.
Despite Harry’s incredible wealth, Patricia does not sport a giant diamond.
“It’s not the French style,” she said.
In December, when a Manhattan court announced a decision that would allow Harry’s divorce to move forward, the couple went to Cartier in Paris. “I want the thinnest band,” Patricia told the salesperson.
Also not her style: guilt.
Although she began seeing Harry while he was married, Patricia said, “I didn’t destroy anything. I kind of saved him.”
She even has him fasting.
“Friends tell him he looks 20 years younger. I don’t feel bad.”
The two met in 2011 at a private showing of his art. Patricia was instantly smitten: “It was love at first sight — on my side, not his.”
They met again two years later when she attended a friend’s dinner party — not knowing he was on the guest list — and found herself seated next to Harry.
“My heart was pounding,” Patricia said. “I felt I had known him forever.”
Added Harry: “I was totally besotted by her. We … both had a feeling we’d met many years before.”
The two say that, if they could have, they would have married the next day.
They had their first date a month later in Cannes, but Harry fell asleep due to jet lag. (She chose not to wake him up.)
He told his wife about his new love in 2014, and moved into the Upper East Side apartment with Patricia in 2016.
“This isn’t something that I planned,” Harry said. “I loved Patricia, I wanted to be with her and that’s it. You have to push caution aside.”
The duo are soon to move into the Harry-owned 432 Park Ave. building. To celebrate their wedding, he recently draped the structure with a 42-foot banner photo of himself and Patricia.
They insist it was not a dig at Linda. “But I can understand because people don’t know … that he was not happy and his wife was not happy,” Patricia said.
“Who can’t love that picture?” Harry added. “Only The New York Times can s–t on you for that.” (The Times called it a “taunt” at Linda. )
Up next, the two are about to leave for a two-week honeymoon in Japan. The itinerary, planned by Harry in secret, will be a surprise for Patricia.
Less than two weeks after their nuptials, the newlyweds say they’re still on a high. Added Harry: “I’ll be on a high for the rest of my life.”
