Joe Biden has not confirmed himself whether he plans to run once more in 2024 but has hinted he intends to seek re-election when the time comes in two years. Valerie Biden Owens told Good Morning Britain her brother will “absolutely” try to hold on to his seat as she insisted he is “the right man” to have in the White House at the moment. Mr Biden, 72, would become the oldest man to serve for a second term should he be re-elected, as he would be turning 82 by the time the next presidential election comes around.

Ms Biden said: “Joe is the right person at the right time for the right job.

“There’s lot of things still to do.”

Asked whether President Biden would indeed run again, she said: “Oh yes, absolutely. Absolutely.”

Were Mr Biden to seek re-election in 2024, the US faces the possibility of seeing the incumbent president face off Donald Trump, who has already hinted at potentially trying to get back into the White House.

President Biden was first elected in November 2020, securing 306 electoral votes against Mr Trump’s 232.

He also secured the biggest share of the popular vote any US president ever won in history at 81,268,924 ballots.

Despite a strong start, the latest approval ratings show Mr Biden’s popularity among voters taking a hit as the US continues to struggle out of the coronavirus pandemic and the additional pressure of rising inflation.

A CNN survey of 1,007 adults conducted between April 28 and May 1 found only 48 percent of respondents approve of Mr Biden while 59 percent had a somewhat negative outlook on his performance so far.

His economic plans appear to have delivered the biggest blow to his popularity, with 66 percent disapproving of his strategy to boost the country’s finances.
