Benefits ASBO couple dubbed 'nightmare neighbours' claim they're not racist 'because no black people live on their street'
A 'NIGHTMARE' couple accused of being racist by their frustrated neighbours has blasted the claims by saying that "no black people live on the street".
Starting fires, fly-tipping and "aggressive and threatening" behaviour were just some of the accusations made against Lynsey Mills and Rhys Hope.
The 'troublesome' pair who moved onto Coronation Street, North Shields, Newcastle were both handed Asbos following a string of allegations.
Dismissing the complaints that she and her boyfriend had been racist, Lynsey, 36, told Chronical Live: "There isn't even a black person in the street so I don't know where they get that from."
Exhausted neighbours said the couple are a "nightmare" and that it is "awful" living near them.
One local, who wished to remain anonymous, said that despite living on Coronation Street, the pair were no Jack and Vera.
There isn't even a black person in the street so I don't know where they get that from.
They said: "They are out all the time shouting 'you're getting exposed, just watch' and calling people 'nonces'."
Rhys and Lynsey, who are both out of work due to long-term sickness fiercely deny the complaints against them, saying that they are in fact the victims.
They claim that they have had fireworks thrown at them and say that it is the other people on the estate who are causing them problems.
Concerned that they will have their benefits axed, Lynsey said: "We just keep ourselves to ourselves and yet we are being accused of all this stuff. The neighbours are saying that we have been starting fires – but where is all the evidence?"
Rhys, who met his partner at a mental health meeting, said: "I’ve been a tenant with this council for years. Now they are saying I’m going around starting fires, but I’m not. This is all just my mental health"
Lynsey said that she had been 'jumped' outside her house and was given a black eye.
A spokesman for the local council said there was sufficient evidence to issue them with the warnings adding there had been multiple complaints from both sides of the row.
