BBC Weather: UK hit by scorching Mediterranean heatwave as temperatures set to rocket
BBC meteorologist Matt Taylor warned of frost around this morning for south-east England and Wales especially, parts of Scotland as well. The weather presenter told BBC Breakfast viewers that this may be the last frost many in the country see for the foreseeable future as temperatures start to rise. So whilst it is a cold start, there’s lots of sunshine for England and Wales.
Mr Taylor said: “Bit of sunshine further north, but fair amount of showers for Scotland.
“It will be windy in the far north of Scotland with gales in places and some longer spells of rain for Shetland.
“But we will find through the days that cloud amounts will increase relative to yesterday, bringing a slightly cloudy afternoon.
“Sunniest conditions will be lasting in the south west and temperatures roughly the same as they were through yesterday.”
He continued: “Through this evening and overnight, rain will continue to come and go across parts of the northwest and Scotland.
“The breeze remains a feature here and it helps to keep the temperatures up.
“We’ll have the first frost-free night for a while to take us into the weekend.
“For Saturday, there’ll be a bit of cloud around to begin with across many areas, but some sunshine coming through across here and there.”
The BBC presenter added: “The best of which will be across some eastern and central areas.
“Northern Ireland will turn generally more cloudy with grey skies through the day here, and temperatures around 14 to 17 degrees.
“To get us through Saturday night and into Sunday, this is where we start to see a few changes to the northern half of the country.”

Mr Taylor also told viewers: “Some of the wettest weather we’ve seen will arrive in the north of Scotland, we could see as much as 50ml, if not a bit more.
“A bit of a damp morning for some in the north of England, but turning drier here.
“The further south you go, it’s not only a dry day, but a sunny one through the second half.
“Temperatures lifting into the high 20s by the time we finish the day.
“Warmth will start to be brought in from the Mediterranean so temperatures will rise once again across the country.”
