BBC Weather: Tropical Storm Gabriel sends temperatures soaring to ’26 degrees’

BBC Meteorologist Matt Taylor forecasted a “warm, sunny day” for those further South and East. Whereas to the North and the West, he warned to “get ready for some rain. There’s a bit of damp weather around for the rush hour across western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.”

He said: “It’s all linked to the remnants of what was tropical Storm Gabriel passing over us.

“It’s going to be a little windy, a little bit of wet weather but not as much wind as we saw yesterday.

“Certainly this morning across parts of western and southern Scotland, and Northern Ireland, expect outbreaks of rain and drizzle coming and going at times.

“The far north of Scotland will brighten up.”

Away from that, he said it would be “a very mild start with temperatures in the teens and blue skies for most.

“Across England and Wales, the cloud will steadily increase throughout and the breeze will pick up, nothing too strong.

“But many in the South and West will stay dry, temperatures here 24, 25, maybe 26 into the afternoon.

“The North of Scotland will be in the lower teens.”

To finish today we’ll see “some rain in parts of northern England and North and West Wales.

“That patchy rain of drizzle will work its way southwards through this evening and overnight.

“Rain turns lighter as we go, skies clearer across the northern half of the country.”

Looking to tomorrow, the BBC presenter said: “where the cloud lingers into the start of tomorrow morning, so the Channel Islands and counties of England, it will be a pretty mild and muggy night.

“Temperatures no lower than 15 or 16 degrees.

“A fresh start to Friday, a little bit on the cool side for the morning commute.

“Any early mist and fog clears, long sunny spells developing, brightening up the coast as well.

“It won’t be quite as warm or humid as today, but it will be warm in the sunshine.”
