BBC Weather forecast: UK braces for scorching bank holiday as temperatures soar to 25C
BBC Weather forecaster Sarah Keith-Lucas warned some heavy showers will still be key for some parts of the country. Weather fronts will sweep in throughout Thursday bringing thundery downpours for Northern Ireland, western Wales and western Scotland. But she forecast sunny spells and soaring temperatures for the rest of the country. She said: “Over the next couple of days things are going to be largely warm and sunny, do watch out though for a few showers.
“Some of the showers that we’re going to see, are going to be quite heavy and thundery as the temperatures rise as well.
“But high pressure not far away keeping things large dry, it’s just starting to ease away towards the east, and that’s allowing a few of these weather fronts to just brush western parts of the UK.
“That’s bringing more clouds to Northern Ireland, also western parts of Wales and the far south-west of England will see a bit more cloud and a few showers.
“And some of those showers pushing into western Scotland later on as well.
“But for eastern Scotland and the bulk of England, we have got a lot of blue skies and sunshine. Temperatures up to about 23C in the warmest spots down towards the south-east.”
This warm weather will continue over the next few days, and is forecast to peak on Friday and Saturday.
Friday is a bank holiday across the UK, to commemorate VE Day or Victory in Europe Day.
Temperatures could reach 25C on Friday in the south of England, as the high pressure pushes through the UK.
Maps from the Met Office show the area of high pressure tracking across the south of England on Friday, bringing the heat.
Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “A plume of very warm air from Spain means the VE Day holiday could see 25C.
“But thunderstorms are a risk and an exceptionally cold plunge of polar air follows on Sunday.”
Many on Friday will be enjoying a day off work, with the perfect weather for BBQs at home.
Despite the warm weather, Brits are urged to adhere to social distancing guidelines and only leave home for essential reasons.
