BBC Weather: Carol Kirkwood warns of torrential downpours as Hurricane Lorenzo thrashes UK
The tropical hurricane will reach the Azores on Wednesday and is set to hit western areas of the UK first with tropical showers and strong gales. BBC Weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood warned the hurricane will also allow temperatures to rise after a couple of days of freezing conditions. She said: “Tomorrow we’re off to a dry and bright start with a bit of sunshine.
“We hang on to that for much of the day but it will feel colder tomorrow.
“Temperatures will be down from today, we’re looking between 10C and 14C.
“I was telling you about Hurricane Lorenzo which is in the Atlantic heading to the west of the Azores.
“As it continues to move northwards, through the cooler Atlantic waters it will weaken.

“We think now it’s going to be to the west of the UK bringing some strengthening winds and also wet weather coming in from the west and heading east on Thursday and Friday.
“It won’t be a hurricane when it reaches our shores.
“One thing it will do is it’s going to bring some milder conditions, it still has a tropical element attached to it.”
Today, the UK will be hit with heavy rain as the Met Office warned of travel disruption for many across the country.
Such is the amount of rain that will strike, a yellow weather warning has been issued for flooding for most of the south of England and parts of Scotland.
Combined with the deluge of rain, it will also be a cold start for many across the country on Tuesday morning with temperatures hitting 6C (42.8F).
Commenting on the weather, Met Office meteorologist, Alex Deakin revealed that the UK will see terrible conditions over the next few days.
In Scotland, temperatures will remain cold but dry as the mercury drops to as low as 6C (42.8F).
In the far north, a heavy band of rain will hit be with “a lot of cloud and rain”.
