BBC Breakfast forced to apologise for using old Remembrance footage of Boris Johnson at the Cenotaph
THE BBC has been forced to apologise today after using Remembrance Day footage of Boris Johnson from three years ago.
The Beeb blundered by showing film of the PM holding a wreath at the Cenotaph in London in 2016 on a broadcast about yesterday's ceremony.
A spokesman blamed a "production mistake" for the error on BBC Breakfast this morning.
The BBC Breakfast spokesman said: "This morning on the programme we incorrectly used footage from a Remembrance Day service that was not filmed yesterday.
"This was a production mistake and we apologise for the error."
In the 2016 footage, Mr Johnson – who was Foreign Secretary at the time – is seen laying a green and white floral wreath at the memorial to Britain's war dead.
BEEB BLUNDER
The floral tribute was to represent British Overseas Territories like Gibraltar.
But yesterday, Mr Johnson laid a red poppy wreath with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn on Remembrance Day in front of The Queen.
He was seen holding the wreath as he stood alongside Mr Corbun during yesterday's event.
Some viewers accused the BBC of deliberately using the old footage.
One person tweeted: "You spliced the footage using clips from two different years.
'CONSPIRACY THEORIES'
"Not something you can do by 'mistake'. It was Conservative propaganda, pure and simple."
Another said: "No one believes you how can accidentally use old footage you have to go look for it, just be honest as opposed to lying.
"You have to go look for old footage."
Rob Burley, editor of political programmes for the BBC, said 2016 footage of Johnson was in the BBC system for preview purposes ahead of the ceremony, but was used in error.

He tweeted: "Conspiracy theories flying about this.
"Truth is less exciting: a production error. My only insight from a year working on the show 10 years ago is that sometimes when a team has been up all night small errors can occur.
"It's a gruelling job, an amazing team & they've apologised."
