Bank Holiday WASHOUT with thunderstorms set to rattle Britain

“We’re going to see showers from the word go”

Criag Snell

A band of rain will lash parts of Scotland and northern England today, while regions in the south-east and south-west of England should remain drier.

The mercury is set to hover between 14 and 17C in most parts of the UK, but the south-east could make a lucky break with temperatures predicted to shoot to highs of 20C.

Tomorrow there will be thunderstorms, which will mainly strike along eastern regions of the country.

Met Officer meteorologist Craig Snell predicted there would be heavy downpours coming in from the North Sea.

He added: “We’re going to see showers from the word go across northern and western Scotland, eastern Scotland and northeast England.

“Quite cloudy here to start off and that will bring in some frequent spells or rain from the North Sea.

“Also a cloudy start across Northern Ireland and the rest of northern England.

“For Wales and southern England, a morning of sunshine and showers, the far south-east of England starting off dry initially before the showers work their way across doing the morning.”

But, Brits will hopefully not have to wait long before enjoying sizzling summer temperatures.

Bookies have seen a flurry of bets that June will be the hottest-ever with 30C being predicted by some forecasts.

Weather Outlook’s Brian Gaze predicts that from this weekend conditions will heat up.

He said: “During Friday there are indications of it turning much warmer and more settled in the south as high pressure starts to build.

“The fine conditions could spread northwards during the weekend. Some computer model runs are showing temperatures pushing up towards 30C, although most are keeping them in the mid 20Cs.”
