Awful footage captures moment cop run over after stopping fleeing suspect

A dramatic dashcam video showed a police officer being run over when a suspect resisted being arrested and fled the scene in his car.

The scuffle happened on an interstate highway in suburban Nashville when Franklin Police pulled over 26-year-old Roy Nicholson on a traffic violation on Sunday (April 24).

He was asked to step out of his white vehicle after two officers spotted a gun and smelling marijuana inside his car.

In the clip, officer Dustyn Stevens is seen trying to put handcuffs on Nicholson, who at that point attempts to break away from the officer.

Assisting officer Matt Lamarr runs up to the pair and help officer Stevens to get hold of the suspect but both of them get dragged onto the floor.

Nicholson manages to get back in his car and begins driving away — running over both of officer Stevens' legs as he speeds off.

According to ABC7, witnesses followed Nicholson and reported his location to police.

He was arrested outside a nearby Walmart a short time later and is now facing assault charges.

Nicholson was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a first responder and felony evading.

He is free on the $40,000 (£31,800) bond.

Stevens, who has served for four years with the Franklin Police Department, was treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was later released.

Lamarr’s injuries were superficial and did not require immediate medical treatment. Lamarr is a 16-year Franklin Police veteran.
