Australian Senator Fraser Anning sparks fury with ‘disgusting’ claims Muslim VICTIMS were to blame for mosque terror massacre
AN Australian senator has been branded "disgusting" after he blamed Muslims for the Christchurch mosque massacre.
Fraser Anning, 69, released a statement and posted tweets in the wake of the shooting in which claimed New Zealand’s immigration policy allowed “Muslim fanatics” into the country.
I wonder if there will be as much outrage from the left wing when the next Muslim terrorist attack occurs?
Most likely silence and talk about “lone wolf attacks, mental illness and no connection to Islam”.
The remarks by Senator Fraser Anning blaming the murderous attacks by a violent, right-wing, extremist terrorist in New Zealand on immigration are disgusting. Those views have no place in Australia, let alone the Australian Parliament.
What we know so far:
-
- At least one gunman opened fire at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, at 1.40pm local time on Friday
- Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has declared the attack a terrorist attack
- 49 people have been killed – 41 were killed at Masjid Al Noor Mosque, seven at Linwood Masjid Mosque and one died at hospital
- 48 people were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds and 20 are in critical condition
- One of the gunmen live-streamed the deadly attack on Facebook using a GoPro in footage too distressing to show
- It was posted on a Facebook page belonging to Brenton Tarrant
- It is understood the killer is an Australian with British parents published a chilling 74-page manifesto before the rampage
- Cops have arrested three men and a woman – with one found wearing a suicide vest
- A 28-year-old man has been charged with murder and will appear in court tomorrow
- Two others remain in custody and one person who was arrested was not related to the attack
- Police are searching a property on Somerville Street, Dunedin in relation to today's attack
Condemnation was led by Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
“The remarks by Senator Fraser Anning blaming the murderous attacks by a violent, right-wing, extremist terrorist in New Zealand on immigration are disgusting,” he said.
“Those views have no place in Australia, let alone the Australian Parliament.”
In his statement Anning said: “I totally condemn the actions of the gunman."
He added: “However, while this kind of violent vigilantism can never be justified, what it highlights is the growing fear within our community, both in Australia and New Zealand, of the increasing Muslim presence.
“As always, left-wing politicians and the media will rush to claim that the causes of today’s shootings lie with gun laws or those who hold nationalist views but this is all clichéd nonsense.
“The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place.”
'DISGUSTING'
While Muslims may have been victims of attacks, he claimed they were also perpetrators and blamed the deaths on “the entire religion of Islam”.
“It is the religious equivalent of fascism,” he said.
He ended with a passage from the bible and said those who followed a violent religion that called on them to murder “cannot be too surprised when someone takes them at their word and responds in kind”.
He carried on his attacks on Muslims in a series of tweets saying: “Does anyone still dispute the link between Muslim immigration and violence?
“I wonder if there will be as much outrage from the left wing when the next Muslim terrorist attack occurs?“Most likely silence and talk about 'lone wolf attacks, mental illness and no connection to Islam."
Anning has been a senator since 2017 and has formed his own Conservative National Party.
The outspoken firebrand has a history of making inflammatory comments about Muslims and immigration.
He has called for an end to Muslim immigration to Australia and urged a return to the White Australia policy.
Anning came under fire for his maiden speech in which he called for referendum as "the final solution to the immigration problem".
He was also condemned for attending a Melbourne rally in January organised by ultra-nationalists.
"He is a disgrace to the Senate and what is worse by spreading hatred and turning Australians against each other he is doing exactly what the terrorists want," he said.
Britain's Home Secretary Sajid Javid added his voice to the condemnation.
"At a time for grieving and reflection, this Australian senator Fraser Anning fans the flames of violence and extremism," he said.
"Australians will be utterly ashamed of this racist man. In no way does he represent our Australian friends."
Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan also branded the comments “disgusting”.
Anning faced a Twitter backlash and with one user describing him as “just a nasty, ugly waste of human life” while another said: “You are just appalling.”
GUNNED DOWN AS THEY FLED
The white-supremacist gunman filmed the footage – too shocking to show in its entirety – on a GoPro camera and streamed it to a Facebook page.
He picked off others at point-blank range with one girl executed as she lied on the floor screaming for help.
At the beginning of the shocking stream, he says "let's get this party started" as he drives up to a mosque playing loud music.
He also says "Remember lads, subscribe to pewdiepie", referencing the controversial YouTuber.
The sicko is then seen taking automatic weapons from his boot, daubed in bizarre references to historic Muslim wars.
He enters and shoots down multiple people in the prayer room, as they run in panic.
The man shoots several people from the car park before stalking through the building, picking off people and shooting bodies on the floor.
He then walks back outside and shoots a young girl on the pavement as she screams for someone to help.
The gunman drives off boasting about how he "should have stayed longer" and blaring music including "Fire" by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.
Believed to be a 27-year-old Australian with British parents – the attacker also published a chilling 94 page manifesto online explaining why he had done it.
The video was published on the Facebook account of a man named Brenton Tarrant – and this profile has since been removed.
Names of the gunmen have not yet been confirmed by police.
Three men and one woman are in custody following the shootings at Masjid Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Masjid Mosque in Christchurch at around 1.40pm local time.
One of those arrested was wearing a suicide vest, cops confirmed as they warned "let's not presume the danger has gone".
Police also defused a number of improvised explosives which were found on nearby booby-trapped cars following the bloodbath.
