Australia: Man assaults female police officer in Bankstown

In nasty footage captured in Bankstown, west Sydney on Monday, the man can be seen launching a ferocious attack on two policewomen. Sydney Police said the man was seen standing in the street and officers asked to move along, provoking the attack. Tough coronavirus lockdown restrictions are currently being enforced in New South Wales.

Video shows the man, dressed in red top and light trousers, repeatedly knee, kick and punch the policewoman in the chest as she is pinned against a wall.

The attacker continues by throwing a flurry of punches to the woman’s head as she tries desperately to cover herself.

Her colleague had also been kicked in the chest and punched by the attacker moments earlier. She be seen frantically calling for help while watching the assault unfold.

The man then appears to lose balance and ends up falling to the floor before quickly fleeing.

The assaulted policewoman tries to recover as a member of the public chases after the attacker.

Sydney Police said a 43-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of assault and breaking lockdown rules before allegedly attacking a third male officer at the police station where he was detained.

All three coppers required hospital treatment for the horrendous attacks.

The violent scenes come as Australians in New South Wales, where Sydney is located, enter their twelfth-week of hardline lockdown restrictions as the authorities try to prevent the spread of the Delta variant.

Citizens are banned from leaving their home unless they have a “reasonable excuse” as the region enforces draconian lockdown restrictions despite a growing backlash from the public.

People are also banned from gathering in public spaces as the authorities grow concerned about variant transmission despite recording a low number of cases.

It comes as the state has announced a roadmap to freedom. It is based on the number of adults who have been fully vaccinated. The first major easing will occur when 70 percent are double jabbed, and the second easing when the figure hits 80 percent.

Around 46 percent of adults in New South Wales are fully vaccinated meaning that, if vaccinations continue at current pace, Aussies should see first restrictions eased around the middle of October.

Sydney’s lockdown chaos comes as Aussie Labor Party MP Daniel Andrews vowed to “lock out” individuals from the country’s healthcare system if they choose to not accept a jab.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday September 5, the Premier for Victoria said those that choose to skip the jab will not be allowed to “participate” in what he branded a “vaccinated economy”.

The strong comments come as Australians have faced a raft of strict coronavirus regulations in recent months which sparked chaos in cities across the country in August.

Hardline restrictions included a trial for a facial recognition app which notifies authorities if an individual is self-isolating in the correct location. Plans for quarantine “villages” have also been considered by ministers as possible options in the years to come.

Australia has reported 1,098 deaths from coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic, while there have been 75,324 infections in the country.
