Anne Brokenbrow, 104, arrested to fulfil her greatest wish

It's not every day that a 104-year-old upstanding citizen is arrested, handcuffed and taken away in a police car with sirens blaring.

But that day came for Anne Brokenbrow on Wednesday, the International Day of Happiness.

Anne, a resident of the Stokeleigh Care Home an aged-care facility in Bristol, had told British charity Alive Activities "her biggest wish was to be arrested by the police".

The, as part of an initiative by the Bristol Wishing Washing Line, a charity that collects the wishes of people in care homes, Anne filled out a form saying: "My wish is … To be arrested. I am 104 and I have never been on the wrong side of the law."

So, at 10.30am, officers from the Avon and Somerset Police arrived and charged her with "being a good citizen", Alive Activities said on its Facebook page.

She watched intently as the officers gently put handcuffs on her frail wrists.

She was then pushed to a waiting police car in her wheelchair.

She smiled and waved from the front seat.

When asked if she wanted the sirens on, Anne said a firm "Yes Please", Alive Activities said.

At the end of her trip, and wearing a police hat, she waved again from the steps of the police station.

"I wouldn't have missed it for the world," she said.
