Andrew Cuomo and CNN star brother Chris slammed for joking about coronavirus while NY death toll climbs – The Sun
BROTHERS Chris and Andrew Cuomo have been slammed for joking about the coronavirus as deaths in New York continue to rise.
Governor Cuomo appeared on CNN on Wednesday, and was the butt of his brother's jokes, who laughed that he had a big nose and required a baseball bat-sized nasal swab for a test.
Chris asked his brother: "First of all, is it true that when you are having the test administered, you inhaled and the doctor's finger went all the way up your nose and got stuck and had to be released with a tool?"
To which the governor replied: "No, actually she wanted to comment that I have a little button nose and she was afraid the swab would actually hurt because it extended my nasal cavity.
"She was speaking about the delicacy of my nose."
Chris then pulled out a cotton swab the size of a baseball bat, teasing Gov Cuomo: "So then, in scale, this was the actual swab that was being used to fit up that double-barrel shotgun that you have mounted on the front of your pretty face?"
"I thought I did so well on that nasal test," said Gov Cuomo. "Standing up there, she did the swab, I did not flinch. I was a cool dude in a loose mood."
His brother added: "Of course you were! That swab was like a piece of lint going in that thing on your face. How could it have collected anything? It was like throwing a rock around a cave!"
However not everyone found the interaction amusing.
The View host Meghan McCain tweeted: "I’m not sure I’m going to ever be able to buy a crib or baby clothes for my first child in a store, Most of my friends are jobless, petrified and dealing w depression & @JaniceDean lost both her mother and father in law to COVID within a week of each other.
"This is HILARIOUS guys," she added.
New York has seen more than 23,000 deaths and 354,000 cases.
However Chris did end the show on a serious note, thanking his brother for having a "good sense of humor" about an important public service message.
"A lot of people aren't getting tested because they're worried about it. Thank you for showing people how easy it is to get tested."
Governor Cuomo recently told New Yorkers to report their bosses who don't allow employees to social distance.
Speaking at his daily COVID-19 press briefing on Thursday, Cuomo encouraged people to call a state hotline if their employer isn't safeguarding their health.
"[People should] report an employer who is not operating with the right precautions," Cuomo declared, alongside a slide with the number to call.
"There’s a message for all of us which is that the PPE actually works," he added, citing the lower infection rates amongst essential workers versus people who stayed home.
"If it reduced the infection rate for them, it will reduce the infection rate for you," the governor told reporters. "We say employers must provide these for employees."
NYC residents tested for antibodies received a positive diagnosis a rate of 19 percent, while 12.3 percent of New York's general population tested positive.
