Amber Heard had 'deep lacerations, gashes and cuts' after Australia 'hostage situation' with Johnny Depp, claims friend

AMBER Heard had deep lacerations, gashes and cuts after Johnny Depp attacked her in a three day "hostage" situation, a friend told the High Court today.

Raquel "Rocky" Pennington, an American mixed martial artist, said she had seen deep cuts on Heard's arms after the 34-year-old claimed she was attacked by Depp in Australia.

The Aquaman star has claimed her ex Depp, 57, abused her 14 times over three years during their relationship – something the Pirates of Caribbean actor has denied.

And pal Ms Pennington today gave evidence at the High Court trial, saying she had been scared for her friend's life after seeing "deep lacerations from (Amber's) wrists to her elbows".

The 31-year-old also said she had seen the soles of Heard's feet cut.

In her statement, she said: "She had gashes on her arms from the incident.

"I could see that her forearms were scratched and bloody, from her wrists to her elbows. She still has scars on her arms from this incident. I also saw at some point that her feet were cut too."

The High Court was today told:

  • Amber Heard told her acting coach that Johnny Depp would 'never let me go'
  • Depp was drunk when he arrived for Heard's 30th birthday and refused to join in the celebrations, it was claimed
  • Heard was not in a 'great mental state' the week before she married Depp
  • The couple would 'scream and say horrible things' to each other, acting coach Kristina Sexton told the trial
  • Heard's sister Whitney dismissed a video played to the court that was claimed to show her discussing injuries she had suffered in a fight with her sibling
  • The actress' friend revealed she had seen cuts to her friend's feet after Depp allegedly attacked her in Australia

Amber Heard this week told the High Court she had been left with injuries from the alleged assault in Australia in 2015, with the judge previously hearing Depp severed his finger during the row and used the bloody stump to write 'i love u' on the mirror'.

Sobbing in the witness box, Heard said: "He grabbed me by the neck and pushed me down against bar then hit me, choked me and spat in my face.

“He was putting so much pressure on my neck, I couldn’t get any words out, and I couldn’t get a purchase on the countertop because of all the liquid and broken glass."

She added: “I was trying to get a purchase on the slick floor and countertops. I was trying to push myself away from the countertop to take a breath.

“It had been so long since I’d been able to breathe. I thought he’d lost control and would end up killing me, but I was just slipping everywhere, cutting myself.

“The bottoms of my feet were the worst. I was saying ‘Stop, stop, please Johnny, you’re really hurting me,’ but it was like he couldn’t hear me.”

The actor then used his severed finger to write "I love u" on the mirror.

Eleanor Laws QC, for Depp, said the scars on Heard’s arm appeared to be from “self-harming”.

Speaking during the trial earlier this week, she said: “They are straight lines and were inflicted by you, and certainly not during the struggle with Mr Depp.”

Heard said: “I have never self-harmed. Johnny is a self-harmer, I’m not.”

In her witness statement, the actress described the explosive drug-fuelled row in Australia in 2015 as the "worst thing I have ever been through".

The actress has claimed Depp attacked her 14 times over three years during their relationship, including at Thanksgiving in November 2015.

Pal Ms Pennington said she had been having dinner with the couple and some friends that night.

She told the court today: "At one point late in the meal Amber went upstairs to look for Johnny and stayed up there for a long time. After a long time they both came downstairs.

"When I asked Amber what had happened she told me that Johnny had thrown a bottle of wine at her in the bedroom.

"I went to look and found that a full bottle of wine had hit and broken a piece of art that Amber really loves above the bed and that broken glass was scattered all over the bed.

"I went back downstairs and spoke to Amber. She was upset, but just wanted to get through dinner without further problems."

She said she had also seen Heard with cuts to her scalp and with a swollen nose after she was allegedly attacked by Depp in LA on 15 December 2015.

Depp is suing The Sun for referring to him as a "wife-beater" in a 2018 article. The Sun, supported by Ms Heard, says the term was justified.

The couple married in LA in 2015 after meeting on the set of The Rum Diary.

But they divorced two years later after Heard, who donated her £5.5million settlement to charity, accused Depp of abuse.

The case continues.

However Depp has maintained that "the only violence committed on that date was by Ms Heard", who allegedly "violently attacked" him.
