Amazon Alexa ‘blocked’ from listening to Brits’ steamy sex sessions
Company privacy chiefs have revealed that Alexa users will now be able to opt-out of having their voices recorded by the gadget.
The update comes after it was revealed last month that a team of Amazon employees in Romania had been monitoring thousands of intimate recordings – many of which included steamy sex sessions.
When users say its name or use a similar-sounding word, the electronic assistant is triggered, kicking the device into action.
“The voice recordings from customers who use this opt-out are also excluded from our supervised learning workflows that involve manual review of an extremely small sample of Alexa requests.
“We’ll also be updating information we provide to customers to make our practices more clear.”
Amazon has been under fire of late after a number of concerns were raised over users’ privacy.
Campaign group Privacy International said: “We need stronger laws to protect the public from devices which are always on and always listening.
“People with these devices are right to feel creeped out and concerned.”
Amazon’s Alexa can be found in approximately 6.5 million Brit homes but many users are unaware that the firm’s terms and conditions allow staff to listen to recordings.
The tech giant says it analyses recordings to “improve the customer experience” by teaching Alexa to respond better to commands.
