Hawaii earthquake: Naalehu residents recall ‘violent’ shakes

A 6.5 magnitude quake struck the Alaska Peninsula on Monday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said. The off-shore quake was reported at 1.10am local time and centred around 70miles (114km) east of the city of Chignik.

Tremors also reached a depth of 46 miles (75km).

There is no threat of a Tsunami, the US Tsunami Warning Centre said.

The incident comes hours after Hawaii was struck by a quake measuring 6.2 on the Richter Scale.

And just three months after a monster 8.2 earthquake hit Alaska’s largest city Anchorage.
