Ahmaud Arbery’s accused killers being held in jail’s protective custody
The father-and-son duo accused of killing Georgia jogger Ahmaud Arbery are being held away from general population in Georgia lockup for their safety as they await prosecution, a report said Wednesday.
Travis and Gregory McMichael are being kept in protective custody in a separate wing of the Glynn County Detention Center, TMZ reported.
The pair have been split up in separate cells that are far enough away from each other that the two cannot speak or communicate, according to the report.
Glynn County Undersheriff Ron Corbett, declined to tell the gossip site if they’d been placed on suicide watch or if threats had been made against their lives.
The pair are accused of fatally shooting Arbery as he jogged on Feb. 23 in Brunswick.
The McMichaels told police they chased Arbery down because they believed he matched the description of a burglary suspect caught on surveillance video.
They were arrested and charged with Arbery’s murder last week after video of the shooting sparked national outrage.
