She briefly takes her hands off the canine’s ears and places a reassuring hand on its head, before moments later the whining sound returns and she returns to protecting the dog’s ears.

According the youngsters mother Ms Wang, every time there are firecrackers set off nearby, she would cover her daughter’s ears and tell her there is nothing to be afraid of.

Clearly, from the short clip the child, dressed in a bright pink coat, has learned from her mother and protected the frightened pooch.

The high-pitched sound of the firecrackers is known to distress many animals, including dogs.

Last year rescuers were forced to hammer down a wall in an apartment in China to save a dog after it got stuck while trying to hide from the bangs of a firecracker.

Neighbours believed that the mutt, which belonged to a local, had been frightened by the festive bangs, but no one was certain how it had managed to squeeze into the enclosed partition.

The incident took place on February 13 when the locals celebrated the Lunar New Year.
