Adam Johnson ‘terrified his victim will sue him’ after ex footballer released from jail

The footballer who was jailed for grooming a 15-year-old in 2016 started trying to make money gain from behind bars by buying up property, The Sun reports.

But it is now claimed that he fears a return to sport will not be an option and his victim could come after him.

The 31-year-old lives in a seven-bedroom mansion in County Durham complete with a bowling alley and football goals, but has now bought property and put the homes in his relatives’ names, it is claimed.

A source told newspaper: “Obviously it appears as if he can afford the money. But he hasn’t got a job, he isn’t on £60,000 a week now and the future doesn’t look great.

“He is relying on the money he built up before he got arrested to keep him going. But if she makes a claim it could ruin that.”

The former footballer served half of the six-year sentence behind bars but was released from jail on Friday.

Sunderland winger Johnson, who once played for England, could move abroad to get back into football.

In a video from prison he was seen apparently making disgusting remarks about his victim – and complaining his sentence was too long.

He was discussing moving abroad while one lag suggested he play in China.

Neither he nor his family has commented on the video since it surfaced.

At home is now subject to strict licence conditions.

He will only be allowed to work if his supervisor approves it and sign the sex offender register for at least 15 years.
