91-year-old LI woman at center of life support battle has died

The 91-year-old Long Island woman whose sons were locked in a heartbreaking court battle over whether to take her off life support died Thursday night, a court official told The Post.

“She passed away last night,” Nassau Courts spokesman Dan Bagnuola said Friday of former school teacher Arline Lester.

He declined to give further details, citing a gag order.

Lester had been bedridden and hooked to a ventilator at Mount Sinai Medical Center, sparking a battle between brothers Edward and Kyle Lester over whether she should be kept alive.

Edward argued that wrenching video evidence of his mother mouthing, “I want to stay alive” proved she should remain on the machines, while his younger brother, Kyle, said it would go against the wishes outlined in her 1999 living will.

A lawyer who was appointed by a Nassau County judge to act as a neutral investigator later said Arline appeared to be coached in the video footage.

Lester taught math for 25 years at PS 125 in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.

The circumstances of  Lester’s death — including whether her offspring had agreed to pull the plug — weren’t immediately clear Friday.

Edward’s lawyer, Jonathan Rosenberg, declined to comment, also citing the gag order.

Edward and Kyle didn’t return requests for comment.
