Aiden Henry, pictured, became an internet sensation after broadcasting several videos while serving a 32-month jail sentence after he was convicted of burgling a house in Rugby, Warwickshire

A three-foot tall burglar who built up a massive Instagram following by filming updates on his life behind bars on an illegal mobile phone has said he is now a ‘social media celebrity.

Aiden Henry, 29, was serving a 32-month jail term for burglary when he started posting videos from inside prison, securing a host of celebrity followers such as Lethal Bizzle, Stormzy and Billy Joe Saunders.

Henry was sentenced for breaking into a house in Rugby, Warwickshire and stealing jewellery and car key. The raider was filmed by in internal CCTV camera which allowed police to track him down.

Prison authorities closed down several social media accounts belonging to Henry while serving his sentence and searched his cell looking for the illegal phone.

Prisoners caught with an illegal mobile phone can face a further two years in jail.

Diana Fawcett, Chief Officer at independent charity Victim Support said: ‘News that some prisoners have access to social media accounts while serving their sentences will be shocking to the public and potentially very distressing for victims.

‘Victims should feel most safe when the perpetrator is serving their sentence and this news will potentially undermine their confidence in the criminal justice system.’

Henry’s antics behind bars secured him a large number of celebrity followers

Since his release from prison last Friday, Henry claims to have secured sponsorship deals, a management team and more than 154,000 followers to his Instagram account.

After he was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court in November 2017 to 32 months in prison, PC Stephen Hill told the Rugby Advertiser: ‘I am pleased with the sentence, Aiden Henry has shown a lack of respect for other peoples property and a disregard of how victims feel when they are subjected to a burglary from their home, a place that they are meant to feel safe and secure.’
