The International Trade Secretary hit out at Labour MP Rachael Maskell over attempts to undermine Brexit Britain’s efforts to secure new trading ties outside of the European Union. Liz Truss insisted the “world is knocking at our door” as she noted the UK is now being fast-tracked to accede to the profitable Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTTP) after securing a deal with Australia last week. Speaking in the Commons on Thursday, the Tory frontbencher said: “The logical position, if she doesn’t believe in trading across the world, is that she only believes in having protectionism for the UK.
“The reality is that trade with the EU has bounced back and what this is about positioning Britain for the future, where the growing markets of the future are.
“We’re expecting trade with CPTTP countries to increase by 65 percent by 2030. She is harking back to the past, we’re looking where the future opportunities are for Britain.
“As the world’s second-largest services exporter, we will be perfectly placed to benefit from strong provisions, securing the free flow of data and easier business travel to CPTTP countries.
“And there are no strings attached to this deal that would force us to seek control over our laws, our borders, or our money.”

Ms Truss continued: “Instead, the UK will join 11 fellow sovereign nations in one of the world’s largest free-trading areas.
“This House can be proud that the UK is at the front of the UK to be the next CPTTP member since it was established in 2018.”
Under the CPTTP, the UK would have access to one of the biggest global markets in the world.
