The arrival of a new government is always a tricky time for main opposition parties.

The coronation of Boris Johnson has left Labour fighting for attention.

He has quickly moved on to Labour’s ground by promising more police, regional investment and extra cash for schools.

We will be watching to see if he delivers on any of these pledges.

Compared with the blustering energy of the new PM, Labour risks looking tired and stale.

Which is why Jeremy Corbyn needs to take the fight to the Tories by making the case for an alternative government that is genuine in wanting to change this country for the better.

The Labour leader should also look at refreshing his team by promoting capable colleagues to the Shadow Cabinet.
