The Foreign Secretary will chair the meeting to get an update on the latest situation and how to best help Britons currently in the Eastern European nation.
All British nationals in Ukraine were urged to leave last Friday.
Britain believes Vladimir Putin is readying for conflict and could cross into Russia’s neighbouring country as soon as Wednesday.
Confirming this afternoon’s emergency meeting, a No10 spokesman said: “This afternoon the Foreign Secretary will chair a COBR meeting to discuss the consular response to the crisis in Ukraine following Friday’s update to travel advice.
“The Prime Minister will receive a security briefing from his intelligence chiefs today.
“Tomorrow the Prime Minister will chair a full meeting of COBR to discuss the UK’s response.”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is currently on a visit to Scotland and the north west of England to promote his levelling up agenda.
He had been due to stay overnight in Cumbria before carrying out more engagements tomorrow.
However, his office has been forced to tear up the diary following the escalation of tensions in Europem with Mr Johnson now returning to Downing Street tonight.
Russia has surrounded Ukraine with 130,000 troops.
Moscow has denied the forces are posied to attack, but Western intelligence points to President Putin preparing for a full-scale invasion.
The UK and other Nato allies have urged their citizens to flee Ukraine and some airlines have cancelled flights to Kiev.
Armed Forces Minister James Heappey warned Britons there might not be time for them to flee Ukraine if they wait until fighting starts.
