Trump cancels press conference just hours after ‘two-faced’ leaders ‘mocked’ him

Donald Trump has cancelled a press conference after calling Justin Trudeau 'two faced' at the NATO summit.

When asked if he’d seen the video of the Canadian President talking about him at Buckingham Palace last night, Trump pulled no punches.

“Well he’s two faced," the US president said.

“And honestly with Trudeau he’s a nice guy. I find him to be a very nice guy.

“But you know, the truth is I called him out on the fact that he’s not paying 2% [of GDP to defence], and I guess he’s not very happy about it.

“He’s not paying 2% and he should be paying 2%. It’s Canada, they have money, and they should be paying 2%.

“So I called him out on that and I’m sure he wasn’t happy about it but that’s the way it is.”

After making the comments sitting alongside German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Trump said he no longer plans to hold a press conference before leaving London.

He said: "I think what we’ll do just for purposes of this, we’ll be having a meeting with the 2% people and we’re having another meeting with Denmark and then we’ll probably go directly back to Washington.

“So we’ll go directly back. I think we’ve done plenty of press conferences – unless you’re demanding a press conference, we’ll do one – but I think we’ve answered plenty of questions.

“And again let me just finish by saying we’ve had a tremendous two days. I think NATO is stronger than it’s ever been.”

The comments came the day after Trump was the topic of conversation between Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, British PM Boris Johnson and Dutch leader Mark Rutte.

Clearly unaware that they are being filmed, Johnson turns to his French counterpart and asks: "Is that why you were late?"

“He was late because he takes a 40-minute press conference at the top,” Trudeau answers for him.

Later in the exchange Trudeau says "you just watch his team's jaws drop to the floor" seemingly in relation to something Trump did in an earlier press conference.

This afternoon Johnson tried to shrug off claims that he was mocking Trump with Trudeau last night.

When it was suggested to him that he didn't take the US president seriously, he said: "That’s complete nonsense and I don’t know where it’s come from.

"I really don’t know what is being referred to there."

Yesterday Trump and Trudeau had warm words to say each other in their first meeting since the Canadian PM won his second term.

The US president said it was "an honour to be with a friend," and touted their "very good relationship," as they continue to push for the renegotiated NAFTA trade deal to be ratified.
