Tory crisis: May’s party HAEMORRHAGES nine points in month – shock poll

Pollsters Kantar’s latest monthly research states the Brexit crisis Mrs May is embroiled in is severely damaging the reputation of the Tory Party after it plummeted from a backing of 41 percent to 32 in four weeks. Brexiteers have also lost confidence in Mrs May’s delivery of the UK’s departure from the EU, the poll suggests as it also reveals more than half of voters now back a second referendum. The poll shows Labour now takes the lead with Kantar, with Jeremy Corbyn’s party rising four points from 31 percent to 35.

The Lib Dems have also gained momentum in the poll, which shows they have surged 11 points.

Across all voters it says 51 percent believe they should have a final say on Brexit – also called a People’s Vote – while 32 percent are against it.

The poll comes after EU leaders urged French President Emmanuel Macron not to “humiliate” Mrs May as she heads to a crucial EU summit to request a lengthy delay to Article 50 so she can attempt to push her controversial deal through Parliament.

Though he today below Mrs May’s chances of a delay out of the water by imposing a “very tough” stance on the subject.

An EU diplomat has revealed that the French President is pulling in an entirely different direction from his counterparts as they attempt to hammer out a date for Theresa May’s requested Brexit delay.

The source told Express.co.uk: “Emmanuel Macron is tough. Very tough.”

On the diminishing possibilities of a long extension, they added: “I am not betting on it anymore.”

Mr Macron is pushing to withhold any commitment to extend Friday’s deadline much beyond elections to the European Parliament on May 23-26 unless May binds herself, and any potentially more anti-EU successor, not to disrupt the workings of Brussels in the final months of Britain’s membership.

Mr Macron’s impatience with France’s historic cross-Channel rival dominated the last summit, when Brexit was put back by a fortnight, diplomats said he again will face a more cautious line from German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who said she favours an extension of “several months”.

Kantar interviewed 1,172 Britons from April 4 to 8 as part of the poll.
