Ricky Tomlinson spoke to crowds of supporters in Derby Square, Liverpool on Saturday to fight for 3.8 million taxpayers who have been denied access to financial support during the pandemic. EUA were joined at the rally by other high profile speakers, including Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotheram, Bill Esterson Labour MP, Ellie Phillips Showbiz Reporter and Kim Johnson Labour MP, who made it very clear that it is no laughing matter to be excluded.

Speaking at the rally, the Royle Family star said: “This bloody well is political.

“They’ve feathered their nest down there and you see some of these youngsters who go to drama school, living in digs, they haven’t got a carrot and they’ve done nothing for them.

“And the sort of system we live in, I switch the television on last night and they’re putting electricity prices up by £150 a year, and you can’t say anything about it.

“But if you want a hand out because you’re down, because you’ve paid your taxes, because you’ve done what you’ve had to do, when you come out of work and you want a bit of support, you get nothing!

“This is political. Today we might be small in numbers, but we’re big in heart, this is just the start of it.

“We’ll show them comedians up there in Downing Street, Boris the Buffoon, that this is only the start, look after our kids, our youngsters who want to do a job they love doing, give them the support that they deserve!”
