SNP furious after MP drowned out TWICE as Tories cheer Margaret Thatcher ‘Bunch of yobs!’
The SNP MP for Argyll and Bute attempted to ask a question to Boris Johnson during Prime Minister’s Questions by beginning to mention former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. But the Scottish politician was interrupted twice by cheering Conservative MPs sparking one of his colleagues to exclaim: “Bunch of yobs!”
The SNP MP went on to say, for the second time: “Margaret Thatcher, John Major and his immediate predecessor, they all accepted that the Union of the United Kingdom can only be maintained by consent.
“Yet despite winning three elections, se eking to test that consent, the Prime Minister insists that the SNP Government does not have a mandate to have another independence referendum.
“So could he tell me exactly what mechanism is available to the Scottish people to get their consent or otherwise for maintaining this union?
“And how should they go about exercising that?”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson replied: “Mr Speaker, I can only repeat my point which is that the Scottish people do have a mechanism, they used it in 2014, it’s a referendum and it was – as I think members opposite all confirmed – it was a once in a generation vote.”
Mr Johnson was confronted on the same issue by SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford who was shamed by the Prime Minister on his relentless call for a second independence referendum in Scotland.
The Prime Minister said: “I think the real question is why the SNP keep going on about breaking up the most successful union in history – to distract from their abundant failure in government.
“You know what’s happening. In spite of getting an extra £9bn a year from the UK Exchequer – which, of course, they’d lose if they were so foolish as to break away – they are mismanaging their healthcare.
“And it’s not the fault of Scottish pupils what you see Scottish schools falling behind on educational standards.”
Mr Johnson added: “Concentrate on what you are doing and stop going on about breaking up the union.”

Mr Blackford insisted his request for a new independence referendum is “about democracy” as he claimed Scottish people rejected the Government’s plans to go ahead with Brexit at the last general election.
The SNP MP said: “In 2016, the people of Scotland voted to remain in the European Union yet they are being dragged out of Europe against their will by this Prime Minister.
“In 2019, the people of Scotland elected a majority of SNP MPs to Westminster. The Scottish National Party won the election on the promise of Scotland’s right to choose its own future, rejecting the Prime Minister who lost more than half his seats in Scotland.
“The Scottish Parliament will decline legislative consent to the withdrawal bill. Why is this conservative government dismissing the will of the people of Scotland, ignoring their voices and disregarding our Parliament?”
