Speaking to George Galloway’s ‘Mother of All Talk Shows’, the former MP delivered a brutal takedown of the direction of the Scottish Green party as he accused them of abandoning their namesake objective and ridiculed them for cosying up with Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish National Party and SNP voters in order to survive in the electoral system. He accused the Greens of prioritising issues such as Scottish independece and “transgenderism” instead of environmental and ecological issues as it was revealed the two parties have now voted in favour of a coalition deal which will see the Greens move from an opposition party to join the Scottish Government. It comes as Green party leaders Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater will move into ministerial roles in the new nationalist coalition next week.
Mr Galloway asked Mr Wilson “how green” the Scottish green’s really are as the party continues to throw its wright behind Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish independence campaign.
Mr Wilson replied; “This is a very odd marriage of convenience and it is all about independence!”
He went on to say he “felt sorry” for Scottish Green voters who are motivated by green and environmental issues who seem to have been “left behind” as the Green’s prioritise issues of Scottish independence.
The former Labour MP went on to share concerns of the impact Scottish independence and the implication that will have on environmental programmes in Scotland.

He said: “Putting a border across a small island is the antithesiss of many environmental objectives .
“It does not make any sense from an environmental point of view.”
Mr Wilson continued claiming that even the UK-wide Green party don’t “want an awful lot to do with” the Scottish Greens.
And in a damning claim Mr Wilson suggested how the party on “really subsist” in Scotland by getting “second SNP votes”

He slammed: “So it’s really elected as a subsidiary nationalist party… With a few green bits and bobs round the edges!”
Mr Wilson went on to accuse the party of focusing on a wide range of other issues unrelated to the environment and that as a result they are continuing to leave core voters and their manifesto pledges behind.
He suggested: “They are much more interested in transgenderism than the more familiar green objectives.
“It makes for a very odd mix!”

Both SNP and Green party members have now voted in favour of the new coalition deal that will see one party be responsible for green skills, the energy industry and the natural environment, while the other will look after decarbonising homes and transport and the rental sector.
But Alys Mumford, who stood for the Scottish Greens in the 2021 Holyrood elections for Lothian claimed members thought the coalition-style deal could hurt the party’s popularity but made clear the party could push through key policies including rent control and changes to the Gender Recognition Act.
Taking to Twitter, she said: “My main perception from members though has not been about what the Greens will gain politically. Rather, most accept that it will be bad for our vote share, but that might be a sacrifice we are willing to make to get policy wins.”
Scottish Tory MSP Murdo Fraser said of the comments: “This Green candidate has let the cat out the bag. Her party are happy to be in power purely to try and impose policies on people that simply didn’t vote for them only a few months ago. That shows a party with misguided priorities at a time when there should be a full focus on our recovery.”
