Rishi Sunak all smiles with family on California holiday
Rishi Sunak looked relaxed as he stepped out with his family on the first day of their holiday in California.
The Prime Minister visited an amusement park on the Santa Monica Pier yesterday with his wife Akshata Murty, and their two young daughters, Krishna and Anoushka.
The outing came on the same day Greenpeace activists scaled Mr Sunak’s constituency home in North Yorkshire in protest at new fossil fuel drilling.
But the PM was all smiles as he posed with his family, who will be heading to Disneyland, as they kicked off their break across the pond.
Mr Sunak cut a casual figure in shorts, a grey jumper and espadrilles, while Ms Murty wore a brightly-coloured skirt.
The family were pictured in front of the rides and stalls at the famous tourist attraction.
Prime ministerial holiday photo shoots are a long tradition, with recent examples including David Cameron being snapped at a Portuguese fish market, and Theresa May hiking in Switzerland.
California is a natural choice for Mr Sunak, who studied at Stanford, worked at a hedge fund in the state and met his wife there.
Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden is at the helm in his absence, which is expected to last for just over a week.

The Prime Minister’s press secretary said Mr Sunak will be getting “daily updates from his private office, particularly on anything that is urgent”.
She said it would be his first time off “since he became chief secretary to the Treasury almost four years ago”.
While the Sunaks were away, Greenpeace activists staged a protest at their home in Kirby Sigston, near Northallerton, against new oil and gas licences in the North Sea.
Four campaigners climbed on the roof of the PM’s manor house before draping it in black material and a banner demanding “no new oil”.
But the environmental group has come under fire for targetting Mr Sunak’s family house.
