Results: Jason Crow vs. Steve Monahan in 6th Congressional District

Democratic incumbent Rep. Jason Crow was leading GOP challenger Steve Monahan in early election results Tuesday night.

Out of more than 171,000 votes counted shortly after 8 p.m., Crow took 61% of the vote with more than 104,000 votes.

Due to newly-drawn boundaries for the 6th Congressional District, Crow had a significant advantage over Monahan. The new boundaries include the urban areas in Arapahoe and Adams counties, including the entire city of Aurora, meaning the district is among the state’s most racially and ethnically diverse.

Crow has represented the 6th District for four years. The Army veteran serves on the Armed Services Committee, the Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Small Business Committee. He told The Denver Post his top priorities for next session would be bolstering the economy and lowering costs for hardworking families by addressing inflation, supporting affordable housing, ending the labor shortage and easing supply chain issues.

Crow, of Aurora, said Congress must vote to reinstate national protections for abortion access. The 43-year-old first ran for office because of the “unique threats posed to our democracy” by President Donald Trump, and he served as an impeachment manager during Trump’s first impeachment trial.

Monahan, who said he is a moderate Republican, served in the Navy for more than two decades.

Monahan told The Post his top issues if elected would be bolstering a strong American economy, reducing crime and “addressing fentanyl crossing through our border.”

By working with the private sector, Monahan said he wanted to incentivize a shift in the current global supply chain “because a global supply chain that begins in America makes our economy stronger, our country safer, and our environment cleaner.”

Monahan, who is not an election denier, does not support federal abortion legislation and believes the decision should be left to the states. The 41-year-old Englewood resident opposes transgender inclusion in women’s sports as well as “compulsory requirements by commanders, from everything from climate action to pronouns.”
