Yesterday Labour unveiled its plans to ban all second jobs except a “limited” number in the “public interest”. They are forcing a Commons vote on the matter this afternoon.

But as Sir Keir outlined his proposals in a press conference to journalists last night, Boris Johnson presented his own suggestions.

The Prime Minister’s plan included changing the code of conduct so that any outside work should be “within reasonable limits” and “not prevent them from fully carrying out” their duties.

Those who failed to comply should be “investigated and appropriately punished”.

Labour has been left furious by the move and claims their proposals go further than those suggested by the Government.
