On Tuesday the SNP leader snapped during a coronavirus briefing, when challenged over the number of people aged 40-49 fully vaccinated in Scotland. Last month the Scottish government said it would finish vaccinating this group, but only 77.3 percent are double jabbed.
Challenged on missing the target Ms Sturgeon raged: “I kind of communicate at a level where I assume a certain level of intelligence on the part of people listening to me because I think that’s justified.
“And I assume a certain ability to attach context and common sense to what I am saying.”
In response, the First Minister was accused of having a “Trump-style meltdown” by Annie Wells, Scottish Conservative health spokeswoman.
The row continued on social media, with Ms Sturgeon sparing with Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross.
He posted a clip of her comments, adding: “Arrogant, elitist, patronising.
“This is not a First Minister who represents working-class Scotland anymore.”
The message was retweeted over 300 times, and received more than 1,600 likes.
Ms Sturgeon fired back, replying: “‘Working class’ Scotland understands perfectly.
“It’s opportunistic politicians who choose not to understand (because having a go at me/the SNP matters more to you than taking the right decisions in a pandemic) that I was referring to – and I have clearly touched some raw nerves!”
In response, Mr Ross wrote: “My my. The SNP do not like being called out.
“But you’re right about one thing – when you talk down to normal working people across Scotland, that does touch raw nerves.”
His remarks sparked fervent debate from other social users, who both criticised and defended Ms Sturgeon’s language.

One wrote: “She is not doing much to actually help…‘working’ class is she?
“Where has there been any private sector investment in the last five years?
“All we get are closures and businesses moving away.”
Another added: “History will not be kind to Nicola Sturgeon.”
However a third targeted Mr Ross, writing: “Giving out lectures on how politicians treat the working class, might just be the most ironic thing you’ve ever said.”
Ms Sturgeon is demanding another referendum on taking Scotland out of the UK, despite the SNP failing to secure a Holyrood majority at May’s election.
In 2014 Scotland voted to continue being part of Britain, by 55 percent of the vote to 45 percent.
Controversially the vote was not given to Scots living in other parts of the UK.
After Ms Sturgeon’s controversial remarks on Tuesday, Ms Wells said: “In a Trump-style meltdown for the ages, the First Minister claimed she was communicating at a more intelligent, higher level than the rest of us.
“This kind of hostile performance treats the public like fools.”
