MPP Jim Wilson returns to Queen’s Park as independent, says he wasn’t investigated for misconduct

Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson has returned to Queen’s Park after his sudden resignation last year and a subsequent Global News investigation that revealed Wilson was the subject of sexual misconduct allegations by a male Queen’s Park Staffer. Wilson will now sit as an independent MPP after being asked to leave PC Caucus.

“I want to thank my constituents for their patience and understanding as I dealt with my alcoholism,” Wilson said in an interview with Global News Tuesday.

Premier Doug Ford warmly greeted Wilson with a handshake as he took his seat on the opposite side of the house.

“I’m going to have a lot more time on my hands to deal with the issues in my riding. So I’m looking forward to that. Sitting in the back row again reminded me when I first started — some 28 years ago. As they say, no seat is a bad seat in the legislature of Ontario.”

After Global News reported on the allegations made against Wilson, Ford told the media an investigation was launched to look into the claims and that he did not reveal the real reason for Wilson’s departure immediately because he wanted to protect the staffer involved.

Wilson said on Tuesday he has not been questioned as part of any investigation.

“There was no investigation that I know of. I was never interviewed or anything like that. So I think once I went to rehab—I don’t know. I think the complainant was happy that I undertook every measure I could to get my life under control and make amends.”

House leader Todd Smith disputed that today saying, “there clearly was a third party investigation that took place, a comprehensive third party investigation that took place. To protect those involved we will not be releasing any of those details.”
