The first proposal involves advising people to restrict indoor socialising, without making it mandatory under law.

This option would follow the example of Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who has advised people to limit indoor mixing to three households over the festive period, without making it a legal requirement.

Option two places mandatory limits on household mixing, as well as bringing back social distancing and introducing an 8pm curfew on pubs and restaurants.

The third option is a return to full lockdown, which was last implemented in January.
